Environment, Public Realm and Movement

Committee Purpose Statement

The Environment, Public Realm, and Movement Committee seeks to connect and beautify the downtown community by advocating for and supporting efforts to:

    • provide safe and easy-to-use movement options,

    • create a green and inspirational downtown streetscape,

    • promote techniques for environmental sustainability.

EPRM Objectives for 2008

    • Increase downtown connections

    • Improve environmental education and recognition efforts

    • Encourage collaboration for the good of the whole downtown

    • Promote Committee efforts more publicly

    • Raise funds to better help achieve goals

EPRM Goals for 2008

1. Light Rail Transit

    a. Advocate for a Union Depot connection

    b. Participate in the station area planning process

    c. Educate the downtown community about LRT

2. Environmental Education

    a. Seek ways to improve EarthWeek Event(s)

    b. Plan and implement monthly educational efforts, such as: in the e-newsletter, flyers, tips on the website, etc.

    c. Research opportunities for collaboration with environmental groups

    d. Connect with parks and gardening groups

3. Bike/Walk

    a. Identify walking routes

b. Analyze supply and demand for bike infrastructure, including: racks, lanes, signage, need for safety, opportunity for art, etc.

4. Committee

    a. Increase recruitment and retention

    b. Increase visibility

    c. Increase funding
